Ferrari 250GTE Body Buck

This 1969 Ferrari 250GTE had had a hard life. It's right wing the victim of poor quality damage repairs and rust. We were asked to create a body buck for K&G Speedshop by R&R Auto Restorations for the non-existant wing

We started by scanning the good left hand wing (blue in the image above). After processing the cloud data we mirror the scan and check that the A piller and bonnet shut lines match accurately with the existing metal.

Using the scan data as a reference we sculpt the panels in CAD to give us accurate, clean data. This is essential in giving us usable geometry for the next process

Using those surfaces we're able to create a completely detailed model of the final buck design. Most of it will be CNC machined from plywood, except the yellow side strake and blue box at the rear of the wheel arch. Those will be 3D printed in a robust plastic to be used as a hammer buck.

To give you an idea of the work involved here's an exploded view of the CAD model. This was needed to help us assemble the life sized 3D jigsaw puzzle!

From all of that we are able to create this! It's now with Kyle to work his magic creating the new wing.
